Welcome

Welcome to PaulCatchpole.co.uk...

Brief musings on life in the world of IT Consultancy and boating...

Update with new links

Paul's Occasional JournalAnother year goes by with this website languishing unloved!

That's mainly because we've been too busy with either real work or boat work to have time to maintain it...

You can find the boaty updates at: http://nbcreamcheese.blogspot.com

I've also started a new network stuff-I-dislike blog at : http://www.greenferret.net/netblog/ < More to come on that one...

Here at the University of Warwick, there's been a good bit of shake, rattle and roll this week, with some big revelations in terms of the departmental re-organisation. With that in mind, Jerv and I have updated our CVs, and applied for a couple of posts with well-recognised IT Security outfit Sophos. Let's hope they get back to us soon.

My CV is around and about, on Linked in and elsewhere. I'll upload it to the files page here too.

Anyhoo, happy new year etc! :)

Been a while...

Paul's Occasional JournalRight, it's been a good long while since I've updated the site!

I've finally found the time to remove all the spam comments and trackbacks, as well as upgrading it - so we should be back to normality...

Quite a lot has happened in the last year or two, and I'll be back soon to update further - and I'll make the effort to at least keep on top of things for a while!

Cheers,

PC

Peter Jones et al

General NewsWho would have thought that the infamous Peter Jones [Dragon's Den] would have a personal site in this state?

This is what it looked like...

You'd have thought he'd have his choice of technical specialists to get this sorted? PC

Another life update...

Paul's Occasional JournalMoving onwards again...

I've been working with the University of Warwick, implementing multicast routing across both of their [large] networks, as well as testing and developing some new services and security systems. All in all, a very productive six months!

I've moved on now, to work for Peters & Peters UK, where I'll be working with large blue-chip clients to implement BlueCat DHCP & DNS solutions in the UK.

All good fun...

All change!

Paul's Occasional JournalWell, all change again...

I've finished at Quadriga - as of Friday 27th April.

I'll be enjoying the opportunity to take a well-earned rest here, and catch up on some of our own geek- and car- related stuff.

I've finally got the lab rack installed for CCIE practice and I'm hoping to make some progress on that during this time.

More to come, I'm sure, very soon.

Life Update & Wiki

Paul's Occasional JournalHi all!

Well, I've not posted anything here for ages! Sorry about that - life's been very busy for the last six months or so...

I'm still at Quadriga - they've been very good to me and have extended my contract for another year. I'm quite enjoying it, even though it's a diversion from my core Cisco R&S skills. I'm currently working on IPTV/DTV (including RF/DVB-C!) and switched networks.

I've finally got around to getting my CCIE career progress back on track.

To that end, I've added some pages to the new Wiki:

www.paulcatchpole.co.uk/wiki.

Have fun!

Job Update!

Paul's Occasional JournalHi all,

Well, I've had an interesting few days.

Applied for a job on Tuesday, telephone interview on Weds and face-to-face yesterday. The face-to-face one was 2.5hrs long - and included a computer-pshrink assesment too. What a marathon.

Seems to have paid off though, as I've got the job, working for Quadriga, starting Monday!

They provide IPTV and the like to hotel chains across the world, and I'll be working on developing the network side of their 'products' as well as maintaining the corporate network.

Interesting stuff, wish me luck!

Paul

BridgeTEL

Site NewsKate and I have set up a new website:

www.bridgetel.co.uk

This exists to showcase the services we can provide in the CCTV and IP Telephony arenas.

Have a look!

Cheers,

Paul

CCTV

Site NewsI've set up the first of our two cameras and the Zoneminder server...

Have a look at:

http://cctv.bridgetel.co.uk:8081

Login is guest, guest!

They're very cheap video cameras with IR illumination switched on automatically at night - unfortunately this reflects off the glass lens cover and causes a tunnel vision effect - but it's good enough to see who's in the garden!

Have fun!

Paul

CV Update and Download Area

Site NewsI've updated my Curriculum Vitae and posted it in the CV section of the download area.

This is linked via the Public Index block on the left <<<!

Feel free to have a look and tell me what you think.

Stuart and Andy - I think I've made most of the changes you recommended a while back! Thanks for your feedback - invaluable!

Cheers,

Paul
